Typography that caught my eye #5

I just wanted to post this one for shits and giggles. :)

Typography that caught my eye #4

When i first saw this i immediately thought of type over load. Also, i thought of the first day of class. But this works really good. Its an eye sore, but it is really interesting.

Typography that caught my eye #3

This piece really reminded me of my work at the beginning of this semester. But it looks like they took what i wanted to do a little bit further than i could at the time.

Typography that caught my eye #2

I believe that this piece could not be as strong if they used a different type face. It is really catchy, and its something to always help guide your mind.

Typography that caught my eye #1

I can honestly say im starting to really love typography, a little bit more each day. It surrounds our world and it can always be broken, but most times is hard to plug in after you get absorbed.

Week 11 of my digital typography class

So after showing you my blog i wanted to show the final for my alternate industry web pages. I think after the past three to four weeks working on this project. It has really come together. Not much else to say but now i need to pay for all these fonts lol. This class was awesome and I really learned a lot. Thanks to Mr. Mehallo. You really helped me dude.

Week 10 of my digital typography class

so this week of class has really put me in a place of vas comfort. I really only had to plug in a few more things for my final's and i think i got some pretty good stuff. I wanted to explain a little bit about the blog that had to do with Paula Scher and this is what i came up with. Primarily Paula Schers blog would have to deal with a mass media type of blog, it would have to be some what personal, but it mostly has to be corporate and organized for business purposes. In most cases that would probably be private. It might have to do with the fact that she is in marketing and branding. Unless she made one that was in public relations kind of way because she wanted to go mainstream. but this blog can only be a information blog about stuff that she has done because i cant write her personal reversed diary. i have looked her personal blog and i can seem to find one.

playing with type and design

Week 9 of my digital typography class

This week we have a curve ball right off the bat again. We all had to strip our Historical weblog pages of every bit of design besides type. On top of having a different professional designer that had came in to critique our work as well. Not only was it nerve racking to have another professional in our class, we had to deconstruct our pages, and then present it for critiques. Just going to say it was not very fun at all. We then finished up with our critiques, got to ask more questions and get more insight. This week was probably the best week I have had in this class by far. I really think im starting to understand this type stuff. Something I neglected to like since I was in school. I really thing the pushing is really getting me to my better comfort zone. I cant say that I cant wait until next weeks four hour beat down, but I can say that I feel like I am prepared for whatever Mr. Mehallo has to through at us.

Week 8 of my digital typography class

We started out the class by having a professional designer come in and critique our work and break it apart piece by piece. The advice we got was very helpful in my ways. We all got a beat down on our work, but we also had a good portion of the time to ask questions and get insight on our projects. I also have to say it was pretty nerve racking to have a professional come in, because there is always that feeling of nervousness when you have a Tiger Woods of design as a guest speaker. Although, it was a very long day, I think I got the most out of today than I have the past couple weeks.

Week 7 of my digital typography class

So after the last weeks critique, I really then started taking notes on what I was doing. Mr. Mehallo also told me to try and follow a more research into the Googie design. This design was almost on every street corner of every sign back in the 50’s. I then plugged in my design for the Cotton Candy Diner with all Googie, and no Fonzi. I had to wipe out all memory of that style of approach. I then came up with the design that is below. I have adjusted this image after my critique so this wasn’t the original layout that I had last week.

Week 6 of my digital typography class

After approaching the new topic for my industry. I thought I had a really good idea for the design of the page its self. But once again I didn’t choose the right path of design. Researching  diners and 50’s design I came up with a page that my teacher referred as, “ Aaaaaaaaaeee, Fonzi design.” Which was practically all checkers with black, white, and pink slapped all over. The type could have used an adjustment in it as well, along with the typos.

Week 5 of my digital typography class

I showed up for class and got the wonderful surprise that we had all gotten fired from our projects. I cant really say I was glad to get fired, but the idea of looking at research that I wasn’t able to figure out was going to kill me if we had to go through with this another week. My new industry project topic was restaurants. The place that the other student had chosen was the Cotton Candy Diner.  Their website that they have right now is not even a real website and it doesn’t have any interactive abilities within the web site. This is going to have to change fast. Also, my new historical designer weblog topic was Paula Scher.

Week 4 of my digital typography class

This week was full or revising work and completely coming up with multiple ideas for our historical weblog designs. Frustrated with my work and all the critiquing, I then still had a struggle with the way I used type. At that time it wasn’t a very good idea to not take notes in class. Which is something I know do, lol. Homework is to keep working.

Week 3 of my digital typography class

For the next two weeks we have to work on our projects a little bit more, we also had new project that we had to work on the side. Our project was to come up with a industry rough and my topic was on job marketing. My approach at this project was walking with blind eyes and primarily just doing what I could without having any knowledge of this industry. That was probably my worst mistake; because I then had to give a presentation on something I had no idea what this web site would be able to do. Horrible idea and you should always do your research before presentations. Trust me. Also this page is way to text heavy.

Week 2 of my digital typography class

This week of class, we had to present all of our work along with the historical designers we had picked. We then had to gather up as much information about them. After an hour of discussion, our teacher then through us a curve ball. We had to design a weblog page about a topic that he assigned all of us. I was assigned Latino culture. When I tried looking for information about Latino culture about three hundred pages popped up on Google. I was lost already as to which area of Latino culture I was going to center my searching on. Lets say I didn’t choose the right path for the second time in a row, and came of looking way too Greek instead of Latino.

Week 1 of my digital typography class

Our class started out with a project that was right off the bat. Our Teacher Mr. Mehallo, asked us to come up with a visual page that showed him our level of type experience. He gave us a set of ten random questions and said,” come up with something in three hours.” He then proceeded to leave the room and let our minds wonder. Needless to say I probably came up with some of the most worst project ideas all slapped on to one page. Lets say when it came down to talking about my file, I had every bad example of good typography known to man. He then gave us our homework and for the most part we had to revise and redo our piece that we showed for class. Caught in a struggle in what I wanted to do, I then came up with the image that is below. After showing what I had did in class before, and bring in this new work. I think I shocked my teacher just a little bit. But at this stage of knowledge of typography, I was happy to get any kind of gratitude for my work. I know have to find two good looking weblogs and two horrible looking weblogs. Along with two historical type designers. This should be interesting.
